Standard old phone routing...
One number is active in 216 Area Codes and only one person could use that number and to only one phone line. No one else could have that number.
That means for business' trying to get a really good unforgettable Toll Free Number. Once it is gone it is gone!
That means if anyone from anywhere in the country calls your number, this tells the local router connected to the global phone network where to send the number. Then it sends it to your phone.
In the past you could also block your number from other areas, meaning it would appear not to work if you didn't want to receive calls from outside your state for example. This is common with most Toll Free Numbers.
They search for the Area Code, Prefix, and the last four digits. Like the Postal Service the search refines as it gets closer to you.
Area Code - Directs it to that region of the country
Prefix - Directs it to your area
Last four digits - Pin Points you at your business. |
